Another Canadian soldier died in Afghanistan today –  Yannick Scherrer of Victoriaville, Quebec, was killed by a roadside bomb. That’s 155 total as of today.

Every time I hear about a new death it makes me feel sad an angry to think of the senseless death of so many young men and women (soldiers and civilians).

aaa

Yannick Scherrer

I wonder whether soldiers like Yannick ever stop to really think about the mission they are sent on, the whys – the rationale. and the expected outcome. I firmly believe that no matter what your job is you have to consider the implications to others and more importantly to yourself.

Plain and Simple – Canada should not be involved in nation-building. If not on moral grounds then on the fact that it creates enemies that we didn’t have before.

There are so many humanitarian missions in need of our help – missions the country could be proud of and get behind.

Bring the troops home. Send them to Haiti. Or the Sudan. Or Japan!

Hey Stef,

Yes, I believe they do understand the missions that they are signing up for. Having two brothers, two brother-in-laws, my father, a sister, and a niece (in bootcamp as I type) who are in the military or have been in the military it is for some an honor to represent our country and to be able to show others less forunate that a good life is possible and not be controlled by some dictator. I think it is important that we not forgot what life was like in Afghanistan before the war.

And yes we are doing missions in some of those countries you mentioned above.
